Skill Level - Very Easy
These ear rings are very easy, very versatile and are a great base to swap and change beads and links to get a different effect. Have a play and see what variety you can come up with.
This example is made with gold filled ear rings, wire and Czech glass beads.
What Knowledge is Assumed
These ear rings require you to finish off head pins (if you need to know how to do this see "finishing head & eye pins" for details), to open chain links and know how to attach jump rings.
What Tools Are Required
- Flush cutters;
- Chain nosed pliers (2 pairs will make life easier);
- Round nosed pliers.
What Supplies are Needed
- 2 X Czech 8mm round faceted ruby beads.
- 6 X 3mm jump rings (or you can use chain links instead).
- 2 X Gold filled head Pins (available in my store).
- 2 X Gold filled ear wires (available in my store).
Tips
- Make sure all of your jump rings are completely closed - there is nothing worse than your ear rings falling apart!
- With your head pins don't have too much room for the bead to move - it looks better with less movement.
- You can substitute the beads. However I have found that an 8mm to 10mm bead sits well with this design.
Instructions for the Ear Rings
- Place 1 X 8mm facetted ruby bead onto a head pin and finish it off with a nice loop.
- To one jump ring add a second and third jump ring (or 3 chain links together if you are using chain instead). You should have a chain of 3 links now.
- To the first jump ring (or chain link) add the loop of the head pin and close off.
- To the other end of your chain, add your ear wire.
- Repeat steps 1 to 4 to make the second ear ring.
- The ear rings are now all finished!
Alternative Ideas
You can use a wrapped loop on the head pin to make it a little fancier.
This is a very basic design that you can change to your tastes. Here is another example using Czech pearl coated nugget beads.
